A sauna can fit your room and still be the wrong sauna for your home. Three things usually decide it: seat count, heat type, and whether your electrical panel can support the heater. Get those right and you eliminate most of the options here.

Infrared is the easier install and the lower-heat session. Many 1 and 2 person cabins run on a standard 120V outlet. Traditional saunas give you higher heat, rocks and steam. Electric models usually need a dedicated 240V circuit; wood-burning models need a flue and no electrical connection.

                      Infrared or Traditional: How to Choose a Home Sauna

                      An infrared sauna warms your body with panels instead of heating the room, so the air temperature stays at 110 to 150°F. A traditional sauna heats rocks on an electric or wood-burning heater to 160 to 200°F and you pour water over them for steam, called löyly. Run a traditional sauna without pouring water and you have a dry sauna. An infrared sauna is the easier indoor install and the easier sauna purchase to get wrong on size. A traditional sauna is the higher heat and the authentic session.

                      Residential cabins are not rated for back-to-back commercial cycles and the warranty will not cover it.                       How much does a home sauna cost?
                      A small indoor infrared cabin is the cheapest way in. A large pre-assembled outdoor build is roughly eight times that. Starting prices for eleven representative models sit in the table above, and every product page shows the current price with options.
                      Is infrared or traditional better for a home sauna?
                      Infrared is the simpler indoor install and the gentler session. Traditional gives you rocks, steam and higher heat, but needs a dedicated circuit. Choose on heat tolerance and on what your panel can support. The table above compares both on temperature and power.
                      Do I need special wiring for a sauna?

                      What size sauna do I need?
                      Count who will use it at once and add one seat for comfort. A 1 to 2 person sauna fits a bathroom corner or spare room. A 3 to 4 person model suits a basement or garage. Heater sizing follows the room: 1 to 2 person builds typically use 4 to 6kW, and 4 person and up needs 8kW or more.
