Gas Sauna Heaters: Unlocking the Secrets of Pure Relaxation

Gas sauna heaters from an authorized Scandia dealer. Gas heats faster and runs cheaper per session than electric on most utility rate structures, and Scandia has built them in the USA since 1964 for resorts, gyms, and home saunas.

Which one? Home rooms up to 450 cubic feet use the 40K BTU, larger and commercial rooms up to 900 cubic feet use the 80K BTU. No gas line? See our electric heaters.

Gas vs Electric Sauna Heaters

A gas sauna heater burns natural gas or liquid propane (LP) to heat a wall-mounted or floor-standing unit, the same basic layout as an electric heater but with a flame instead of heating elements. Gas heats a room faster and, on most utility rate structures, costs less to run per session than electric. The tradeoff is that gas needs a real gas line or LP tank and professional installation by a licensed gas contractor, while electric only needs the right amperage circuit.

For a room under 200 cubic feet, electric is usually the more efficient and less expensive choice to install. For a home sauna in the 200 to 450 cubic foot range or a commercial room up to 900 cubic feet with gas already run to the space, a gas heater is the cheaper option to operate over years of regular use.

Choose gas if

You already have a gas line or LP tank, run the sauna 4 or more times a week, and want the lower per-session fuel cost over time.

Choose electric if

There is no gas access, the room is under 200 cubic feet, or you want the simpler install. See HUUM and Harvia electric heaters.

Which Size Is Right for You?

Home sauna, 200 to 450 cu ft

The 40K BTU is sized for most home rooms with a gas line already run. Fits natural gas or LP.

Large home or commercial, up to 900 cu ft

The 80K BTU is the commercial-grade step up for resorts, gyms, and larger custom builds.

No gas line on site

An electric heater avoids the gas contractor and line install entirely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a gas sauna heater cheaper to run than electric?
On most utility rate structures, yes. Gas heats faster and costs less per session than electric, though the exact savings depend on local gas and electricity rates. Installation is the bigger factor: gas needs a real gas line or LP tank and a licensed contractor, while electric only needs the right circuit.
What size gas sauna heater do I need?
Multiply your sauna's length, width, and height in feet to get cubic footage. Up to 450 cubic feet uses the 40K BTU. Up to 900 cubic feet uses the 80K BTU. Call 866-861-6317 to confirm.
Can I install a gas sauna heater myself?
No. Gas appliance installation requires a licensed gas contractor in most jurisdictions. Budget for professional installation before ordering.
Does Scandia make natural gas and propane heaters?
Yes, both the 40K and 80K BTU heaters are available in natural gas (NG) or liquid propane (LP). Confirm your fuel source before ordering.
What comes with the heater, and what do I still need to buy?
Each heater ships with the unit, wall controls, rock pan, back panel, and installation hardware. Sauna rocks (up to 8 gallons) and the gas line connection are sold separately. Confirm venting routing with your contractor before installation.
