Traditional SunRay models use Harvia electric heaters to heat the air and stones to 170–180°F, creating the classic Finnish sauna experience. You can also add water to the stones for steam. If you want lower-temperature daily wellness sessions, go infrared. If you want the authentic high-heat traditional experience with steam capability, go traditional.

QHow much space do I need for a SunRay sauna?

1-person models need roughly 3×3 feet of floor space. 2-person models need around 4×4 feet. 3-person models need approximately 5×4 feet. 4-person models range from 5×4 to 6×5 feet depending on the configuration. You'll also need a few inches of clearance on all sides for ventilation, and space nearby for the control panel access. Outdoor models need level ground and protection from direct water runoff. QAre SunRay infrared saunas low EMF?

Yes. All SunRay infrared models are tested at ≤2.4 MG EMF — considered low EMF for home sauna use. QWhat wood is used in SunRay saunas — hemlock or cedar?

SunRay uses two wood types. Canadian red cedar is used in premium infrared models like the Sedona, Sierra, Savannah, Sequoia, Bristol Bay, and Roslyn — it has a warm natural aroma, rich appearance, and is naturally antimicrobial. Canadian hemlock is used in most other models — it's durable, odour-neutral, and holds heat well. Both are quality hardwoods. Cedar is generally preferred for its look and scent; hemlock is slightly more practical for daily high-humidity use.

QCan a SunRay sauna be installed outdoors?

Yes — SunRay makes six dedicated outdoor models. Outdoor units use aged Canadian hemlock with a weatherproof sealed finish and a shingled roof for protection against rain and UV. They're designed for year-round outdoor use. The indoor models are not suitable for outdoor installation. If you want an outdoor sauna, the Freeport, Waverly, or Eagle (traditional) or Burlington, Grandby, or Cayenne (infrared) are the right options.

QAre SunRay saunas safe for daily use?

Yes, SunRay infrared saunas are built for regular daily use. Start with 15–20 minute sessions at lower temperatures and work up to longer sessions as you adapt. Stay hydrated before and after. If you have cardiovascular conditions, are pregnant, or are on medications that affect heat tolerance, consult your doctor before starting regular sauna use. Traditional models at higher temperatures (170–180°F) are generally used for shorter sessions of 10–20 minutes.
