Traditional SunRay models use Harvia electric heaters to heat the air and stones to 170–180°F, creating the classic Finnish sauna experience. You can also add water to the stones for steam. Indoor models skip the weatherproofing, so they're cheaper, lighter, and easier to install, but cannot be placed outside. The heater and interior are largely the same. It has a warm aroma, rich appearance, and is naturally antimicrobial. Canadian hemlock is used in most other indoor and outdoor models. It is durable, odour-neutral, and holds heat well. Solid red cedar is used on all barrel saunas for the ball-and-socket construction. Cedar is preferred for its look and scent; hemlock is slightly more practical for daily high-humidity use.
