Harvia Protective Sheaths and Bedding: how a wood stove fits a room that is too small for it
A wood stove needs a lot of empty space around it, and most saunas do not have it. A protective sheath is a heat shield that attaches to the stove and cuts the distance it needs to the wall. Protective bedding does the same job for the floor. Harvia makes both per stove family: the WL200PC and WL300PC for Cilindro, the WL400 for the M series, the WL500 and WL590 for PRO 20, the WL580 for Linear 22 ES, the WL750 for PRO 26, and the WL120 round bedding for pillar stoves.
Sheath, bedding or chimney cover
Three different jobs. A sheath is a vertical panel on the stove that shields the walls. Bedding is a plate under the stove that shields the floor, and it is required rather than optional on a combustible or tiled floor. The WL300PC is a cover around the chimney pipe that you fill with 40 kg of stone.
What the reduced distance actually is
This is the honest part. Of the eight parts here, Harvia publishes a numeric reduced clearance for exactly one. The WL200PC gives 50 mm at the side and behind. The others say only that they considerably reduce the safety distance, with no figure on the accessory page. Those numbers live in each stove manual instead, so tell us your model and we will pull the figure.
BEFORE YOU ORDER: A SHEATH DOES NOT REDUCE EVERY DISTANCE
On the Harvia PRO 26, fitting the WL750 drops the side and rear distances from 375 mm to 73 mm but pushes the front distance up from 375 mm to 526 mm. So a sheath buys you width and depth and costs you room in front of the door. Do not plan a layout on the assumption that a sheath shrinks everything. Harvia also publishes no sheath at all for some models, including the Linear 18 Compact, and fitting another model sheath does not transfer its figures. If a protective cover is used, the chimney insulation must start at or below the top of the cover.

How much closer to the wall can I put the stove?
It depends on the stove, and Harvia publishes the figure on the accessory page for only the WL200PC, at 50 mm side and behind. For every other sheath the number is in the stove installation manual. Ask us with your model.
Is protective bedding optional?
Not on a combustible or tiled floor. A concrete slab of 60 mm or more takes a stove directly. Anything else needs bedding.
Does a sheath reduce the front clearance too?
No, and on the PRO 26 it increases it. Fitting the WL750 takes the sides and rear from 375 mm to 73 mm but the front from 375 mm to 526 mm.
What goes in the WL300PC chimney cover?
40 kg of 10 to 15 cm sauna stone. The stone is the mechanism, so the cover does not work empty.
