Harvia Protective Sheaths: the panel that lets a stove sit closer to the wall
A wood stove needs a lot of empty space around it and most saunas do not have it. A protective sheath is a heat shield fixed to the stove that cuts the distance it needs to combustible construction. Harvia makes one per stove family, and they are not interchangeable. This page carries the eight that fit the existing Harvia range: the WL200 for Legend, WL450 for the M series, WL475 for Linear 16, WL550 and WL650 for PRO 20, WL575 and WL585 for Linear 22, and WL850 for PRO 36.
Match it to the stove, not to the room
Each sheath is cut for one stove body. A WL550 will not sit on an M series and a WL450 will not cover a PRO 36. Order on your stove model rather than on the panel size, and if you are not certain which stove you own, send us a photograph of the rating plate.
What the reduced distance actually is
Harvia states on these accessory pages only that a sheath considerably reduces the safety distance to combustible materials. It does not publish a figure per sheath here. Those numbers live in each stove installation manual instead, and they differ sharply: on the PRO 26, for example, fitting a sheath drops the sides and rear from 375 mm to 73 mm but raises the front from 375 mm to 526 mm. Tell us your stove and we will pull the figure.
BEFORE YOU ORDER: A SHEATH DOES NOT REDUCE EVERY DISTANCE
On several Harvia stoves a sheath reduces the side and rear clearance and increases the front clearance at the same time, because the shielded body pushes the working space outward. Do not plan a layout on the assumption that a sheath shrinks everything. If a protective cover is used, the chimney insulation must start at or below the top of the cover. And a sheath is not a substitute for floor protection: a combustible or tiled floor still needs Harvia protective bedding underneath.
