A sauna without running hot water is a sauna with a bucket problem. The Harvia Cauldron is a free-standing stainless steel water heater with its own firebox, so it makes hot water anywhere there is wood and a flue. Fifty litres, supplied with a cover, part number WP500.

Where it earns its place

This is an off-grid and outbuilding product. In a garden sauna, a lakeside cabin or a property where running a hot supply to the sauna would mean trenching, the Cauldron replaces that whole job with a fire. It is also the traditional answer, which matters to a certain kind of buyer, and it works when the power is out.

You light the firebox roughly an hour before the sauna session, the same way you would light the stove, and the water is hot by the time the room is. Fifty litres is enough for several people to rinse between rounds, which is the usual pattern in a traditional Finnish build. Because it stands separate from the sauna stove, you can site it in the washroom or the changing area rather than in the hot room itself, which is generally where you want the water anyway.

What it is not

It is not a plumbed water heater and it does not connect to a hot supply or a mixer. It is a fire under a tank. If you have mains water and power at the sauna, a conventional cylinder will be cheaper to run and easier to use, and we will say so. The Cauldron is for the sites where that is not on offer.
