Olivine diabase is the default Harvia stone and it is grey. Vulcanite is the alternative: a dark grey volcanic rock roughly two billion years old, split-face like the standard stone but noticeably darker in the basket. It comes in two sizes, the AC3040 at 5 to 10 cm and the AC3045 at 10 to 15 cm, both in 20 kg boxes. Function is the same as any split-face stone; the difference is how the heater looks with the lid off.

Which size your heater takes

Stone size is set by the heater, not by preference. The AC3040 at 5 to 10 cm suits electric heaters, and Harvia also lists it as a top stone for wood-burning heaters. The AC3045 at 10 to 15 cm suits large electric heaters and all wood burners. Check your heater manual for the size it specifies before ordering, because a stone that is too small packs tight and chokes the airflow the elements need.
